Matthew Booth and Sonia have finalized their divorce at the Johannesburg High Court after a prolonged legal process. The divorce proceedings were initiated due to Matthew’s infidelity, which came to light when Sonia revealed his affair with Bongani Mthombeni-Moller, who is now divorced.
Under the terms of their marriage in the community of property, the former couple divided their joint estate equally, with no spousal maintenance awarded despite Matthew’s claim of financial hardship.
Matthew filed for divorce in November 2022, while Bongani filed for divorce from her husband, Professor Klaus Möller, in February 2023. Despite earlier denials, Matthew and Bongani have now publicly acknowledged their relationship.
“I feel like I’m starting a new chapter in my life,” Sonia commented following the divorce. “I’m looking forward to focusing on my Cheesecake brand and taking things at my own pace.”
