PREPARATIONS for the Transform Africa Summit are on course, with the organising committee tying up loose ends ahead of the three-day conference which is being held outside Rwanda for the first time.
The event which confirms the success of Zimbabwe’s engagement and re-engagement agenda will be attended by at least 10 heads of state.
Set to run from the 26th to the 28th of this month in Victoria Falls, the summit will be attended by representatives from over 100 countries, including 10 heads of state, 40 ministers and several innovators.
Giving a briefing in Victoria Falls this Monday, the Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services said all systems are now in place for a successful summit.“Preparations are at an advanced stage, as we speak pre-sessions and committees are in full swing to ensure the summit becomes a success. Other delegated Heads of State are on their way and we are expecting them to start arriving from today until 26 April 24, 2023,” said Minister Jenfan Muswere.
Turning to the opportunity of hosting the event, the government says it is an endorsement of Destination Zimbabwe and the country’s strides in the information communication and technology sector.
“It reflects on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision in terms of transforming the entire microeconomic landscape utilizing ICT. It also reflects the confidence that the Transform Africa Summit membership has in Zimbabwe.
“It also reflects in terms of support and confidence that other members have in our President in terms of championing utilisation, development and manufacturing of various ICT gadgets,” said Minister Muswere.
To buttress the importance of ICTs, the Second Republic has enacted the Data Protection Act which looks at four critical areas of access, utilisation, industrial growth, and governance.
