Musician in trouble after causing a car accident due to negligent driving

A Zimbabwean musician named Progress Chipfumo found himself in hot water after causing a car accident in Harare due to negligent driving.

Chipfumo, who plays Afro-jazz music, was behind the wheel of his BMW X3 SUV on March 19 when the mishap occurred. He was driving along Samora Machel Avenue during the evening rush hour when he decided to park on the side of the road.

However, Chipfumo failed to check if the lane was clear before pulling over and ended up colliding with another vehicle, a Nissan Cube, heading in the same direction. Luckily, neither Chipfumo nor the other driver was injured in the crash despite the damage to both vehicles. Chipfumo’s BMW sustained damage to the front left side while the Nissan Cube was dented on the front.

After the accident, Chipfumo was hauled before a magistrate and formally charged with negligent driving. He was not asked to enter a plea during the initial court appearance and was released on bail until his next court date on June 7.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of checking your mirrors and blind spots carefully before any lane change or sudden manoeuvre.
