Gender-based violence (GBV) has fastly become a pandemic and over the years, abuse has been on the rise across the globe, and South Africa hasn’t been spared.
Mzansi has been battling with gender-based violence and s.e.xual assault cases which have been on the rise.
However, the government has put several measures to curb the cases that have been on the rise. In recent years several South African A-listers have opened up on their abuse woes.
These celebrities have given hope to many when it comes to disclosing abuse.
Moonchild Sanelly
Four years ago, the bubbly musician opened up on her alleged abuse. She has it that she was s.e.xually harassed by a family member but failed to get justice despite reporting the case.
Lady Zamar
Over the years, she has been making headlines in the wake of her rape allegations against Sjava. In 2020 she dragged the BET award-winner to the courts for rape. However, her case was later dismissed over lack of evidence.
Amanda Du Pont
In 2021 the bubbly actress and reality star revealed that Jub Jub once raped her during their affair. Du Pont made the daring claims after Jub Jub opened up on their failed relationship on Podcast and Chill with MacG. She also levelled several abuse allegations against the star.
Masechaba Khumalo
In 2019 she pulled a shocker when she revealed that her stepdad s.e.xually abused her. She also accused Jub Jub of raping her.
Zoleka Mandela
Also on the list of SA celebs who have opened up about being abused is Zoleka Mandela. She has often opened up on her abuse woes over the years. She has it that she was abused while growing up, and at some point, she contemplated suicide.
Sophie Ndaba
In 2019 during an interview, the celebrated actress revealed that some of her relatives s.e.xually harassed her while growing up.
