I’m being framed – Jub Jub speaks out

Hip-hop musician Molemo Maarohanye, widely known by his stage name Jub Jub, has poured cold water over allegations of rape levelled against him. Maarohanye, who is out on R10 000 bail for rape and attempted murder, screams his innocence in a statement he submitted to police ahead of his trial in November.

In the statement seen by one of the detectives investigating the case, Maarohanye denies he raped and attempted to kill his ex-girlfriend Amanda du-Pont. The award-winning recording star labels the claims by du-Pont as malicious, saying they are an attempt to frame him for a crime he did not commit. Du-pont, a former Muvhango actress, opened a case of rape and attempted murder against Maarohanye almost 20 years after he allegedly violated her.

The Uyajola 99 presenter’s explanation is that he went to a popular show, Podcast and Chill with MacG, and alleged that he “smashed” du-Pont while they were dating. The former couple’s romantic relationship later disintegrated after Maarohanye cheated on du-Pont with afro-pop singer Kelly Khumalo.

The detective, who did not want to be named because he is not allowed to speak to the media, said the former love-birds met in 2006 through a friend named Rally Mampeule while Maarohanye was performing in Sandton, Johannesburg. The following day, he phoned du-Pont, who invited him to her residence. Shortly after the visit, they started dating and later moved in together,” said the detective.

Shared the cop: “Her mother visited their place and on such occasions, she requested Jub Jub to neatly pack his clothes so the mother would not notice they were living together.”

The detective shared that Maarohanye and du-Pont’s dalliance grew stronger, saying they even visited her parents in Swaziland twice, because the rapper planned to marry her. Maarohanye said if indeed the relationship was full of abuse and rape as du-Pont alleges in the charge sheet, all these would not have happened because she would have easily reported him to her parents or to the police when he was in prison.

The cop said Maarohanye states in the statement that du-Pont became one of his dancers, and she had accompanied him to the SA Music Awards in Sun City in 2008. Late in 2009, said the rapper, he went home only to find that du-Pont had packed everything and vacated their love nest.
n the table, Maarohanye said du-Pont had left a note and a newspaper article which exposed his cheating shenanigans with Khumalo, according to the detective.

Said the police officer: “This was the end of their relationship, and he has not heard from her since, according to him. The cop said Maarohanye shared in the statement that du-Pont and Sibusiso Leope, fondly known as DJ Sbu, visited him in jail, and that du-Pont took a picture with Maarohanye.

According to Maarohanye, said the cop, du-Pont concocted the charges against him after he made “inappropriate remarks” about their sexual relationship on MacG’s show.

The rapper said although he apologised to du-Pont for his omission, the remarks made on the show could not justify her false accusations.

“He said it appears to him that she had never disclosed to her husband that she had a relationship with him, which included a sexual relationship, because when he exposed this on the [MacG] show, the allegations followed.

“Maarohanye further said perhaps his remarks on the podcast caused du-Pont’s marriage to disintegrate or contributed to its demise.” If he raped or abused du-Pont, said Maarohanye, she would not have waited for the MacG show.

According to the detective, Maarohanye said du-Pont had many opportunities over many years to complain, and noted that even when he cheated on her, du-Pont did not accuse him of rape or abuse. Maarohanye, according to the detective, also said du-Pont was quoted in the media saying she was raped but denied that he was the suspect.
