Xolani Khumalo who is well known for raiding drug-infested areas in his much-loved TV show, Sizokuthola, appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 19 September.
He was charged with the murder of a suspected drug dealer.
Xolani handed himself over at the Katlehong North Police Station on Tuesday, 19 September, where he was officially charged with the murder of Robert Varrie, who died during the recording of the Sizokuthola TV program in July.
Xolani was granted a bail of R20,000 and the case was postponed to 19 October.
Robert was allegedly assaulted on Wednesday, 19 July at Phadima Section in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni.
He was later dropped off at the Thelle Mogoerane regional hospital in Vosloorus by the crew.
State prosecutor Pheello Vilakazi said the deceased was strangled and died in hospital.
However, Xolani will spend a night at Ramokonopi Police Station after his family couldn’t pay the bail because the cash wall office was closed.
Xolani’s lawyer, Advocate Prince Mafu from Mawandla Law Chamber instructed by Van Zyl Johnson Attorneys read an affidavit stating that their client was a first-time offender.
Mafu said Xolani intended not to plead guilty to the murder case he’s facing.
Magistrate Singh Ashin gave Xolani bail instructions that he must not contact the witnesses and he must report to Midrand Police Station once a week. Xolani was also informed to hand over his passport to the investigation officer.
The deceased partner who witnessed the incident told Daily Sun that on that fateful day, Xolani and his crew with armed men and Amapanyaza patrollers came to their place and wanted drugs.
She said Robert only had a few drugs in his possession and gave them to the crew, but they demanded more.
She alleged that her boyfriend was assaulted even after he told them he only had a few drugs and was later taken to hospital by the crew.
The Xolani Khumalo Foundation spokesperson, Kgodiso Komane, said they are happy with the support from the community.
The court was full to capacity and some people had to sit outside.
“Xolani is a person but represents a warrior and a huge drug fighter. We all came in support to say hands off Xolani because of the job he is doing in the communities,” said Komane.
