13-year-old boy shoots dead fellow teenager

A 13-year-old boy from Karoi has been arrested after he tragically shot dead a fellow 15-year-old teenager in the head.

The boy, who is in police custody and cannot be named for ethical reasons, is helping the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) with investigations. The incident happened in Chiedza, Karoi, on Monday, 11 December, 2023.

The ZRP reported the incident on its X account and revealed that the 13-year-old shot his teenage friend, who is 15 years old, with a pistol. He discharged the loaded firearm because he wanted to see if it worked.

After fatally shooting his friend, the incident was initially reported as an accident. They told the police that the victim was hit in the eye by an unknown object that had exploded after he tossed it in a fire.

The ZRP disclosed:

“Police in Karoi are investigating a case of murder which occurred on 11/11/23 at a house in Chiedza suburb. The case was initially reported to the police as a sudden death incident in which a male juvenile (15) died after being hit in the eye with an unknown object. The object had allegedly exploded after it was thrown into the fire by the victim.

“Investigations by the Police revealed that the victim was shot by another male juvenile (13) on the head with a 0.32 Revolver Taurus pistol. The suspect confessed to the Police that he wanted to find out if the firearm killed him. The suspect was given the pistol by his friend, a male juvenile (10). The pistol belongs to Takudzwa Saini (18), who is the suspect’s friend’s elder brother (18).”

An 87-year-old Bulawayo man is on the run after burning his niece’s house in Nkulumane suburb recently. Joshua Dube, who has been residing at the same house for 15 years set the house on fire and ran away.

“Yes, I confirm that my uncle burnt the house, he set it on fire, luckily, we contacted the fire brigade to extinguish it before it had damaged all the rooms, though the damaged rooms were already in ashes on its arrival,” Sibanda said. Read More
