Award winning artist, Makhadzi, is accused of not pitching at an event she was booked for on the 24th of December last year. The Mpumalanga event organiser is now demanding his money from the star after failing to honour two gigs.
Makhadzi, real name is Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, was booked to perform in three venues, Ekus Cafe, Mdhluli Outlets in Nelspruit and Quiet Vibes in Bushbuckridge, all in Mpumalanga.Event Organiser Mfundo “Thonsi” Mathonsi regrets trusting Makhadzi and her management.
Makhadzi charged them R50 000 for two gigs and the third one she requested R35 000 and for them to book her eight rooms. “We went overboard to make sure that the people of Mpumalanga get to see Makhadzi performing this side since he has a huge following. She let us down, this is despite us making sure that we met her demands. We went all out, and all of our events were sold out. We even asked that since she never made it on the 24th, she must come on the 27th. She failed also to come through.
We had to explain to the people that had bought tickets that we were going to reimburse them. That is a loss for us, a huge loss,” he said. It is alleged that Makhadzi is no longer taking his calls and her manager Maphuthi Perez has since blocked his calls. “We have proof that we booked her, and she even posted on her socials that she was going to be part of the event, but she never came,” said a work associate of Thonsi, who wished not to be named.
ZiMoja is in possession of the slips that show that money was paid into an account belonging to Makhadzi Entertainment, a company she opened after she leaving Open Mic. ZiMoja is also in possession of the WhatsApp conversations between Maphuthi and Thonsi, where she promised to refund them on Tuesday. ZiMoja understands that Makhadzi paid back R50 000 through her manager but had failed to settle the full amount. The organisers claim that both Maphuthi and Makhadzi have blocked the organisers.
It was never our plan to take this route of exposing Makhadzi because we work with artists. This might ruin our working relationship with other artists. All we want is our money back without dragging her to court,” the associate of the event organiser said. When Thonsi was contacted for comment, he confirmed booking Makhadzi.
We did book her but unfortunately she never made it to the venues after she apparently had a puncture on her way to Nelspruit. This is the story they gave us. I won?t be able to share more details on this matter since it is a matter between two parties,” he said. Makhadzi is not new to the controversy of being booked and not showing up to gigs. Last year she was nearly dragged into a Botswana High Court after she failed to honour a gig she was paid upfront for. ZiMoja called Makhadzi for comment, but she did not answer our calls or respond to our texts. Her manager also blue-ticked ZiMoja.
