Popular actor Thembinkosi Mthembu achieved a significant milestone over the weekend by clinching his inaugural acting award at the 11th Annual Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and TV Awards. The Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards celebrate exceptional accomplishments and brilliance within the South African Film and Television industry, with a particular emphasis on KwaZulu-Natal.
Mthembu was honored with the Best Actor–TV accolade during the ceremony held in Durban on Saturday. His outstanding performance in “Shaka iLembe” garnered him this prestigious award, marking a crowning achievement shortly after his 30th birthday.
In 2023, Mthembu captivated audiences across South Africa with his portrayal of King Dingiswayo in “Shaka iLembe,” portraying the son of King Jobe of the Mthethwa dynasty. Additionally, his role as Bonga in “Adulting” and Bandile in the pioneering South African modern-day Western series “Outlaws” on Showmax further solidified his stature in the industry.
Another first-time recipient at the Simon Sabela Awards was veteran actor Melusi Yeni, known for his role as Sokhobase in Mzansi Magic’s telenovela “Sibongile and the Dlaminis,” which earned him accolades.
