A local religious leader has reignited public debate surrounding the flamboyant and often controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo, declaring that his vast wealth is not merely the result of business acumen or luck—but a reflection of divine favour and spiritual purpose.
Prophet Thomas Makoni, founder of Gospel of the Kingdom Ministries, made the bold assertion during a sermon delivered to his congregation this week. In his message, Makoni claimed that Chivayo’s extraordinary ability to acquire wealth in nearly every venture he undertakes is a sign that he was “destined” to be rich and is walking in alignment with a divine plan.
“Sir Wicknell is one of our ambassadors in terms of wealth, considering the way he is assisting people,” declared Prophet Makoni. “He was simply favoured by grace. Some people work day and night and still struggle, while others like Chivayo receive abundance without breaking a sweat.”
Makoni emphasized that individuals such as Chivayo are rare and often appear in every generation. According to the prophet, their purpose is not only to thrive financially but to elevate others through their blessings, serving as vessels for God’s grace in society.
During the sermon, Prophet Makoni went further, praising Chivayo for his ongoing acts of generosity, particularly towards churches, entertainers, sports personalities, and everyday Zimbabweans within his circle.
“Sir Wicknell is an anointed individual. He continues to remember those close to him, including members of his church, and he gives back in a way that’s uncommon,” said Makoni. “Those who criticise how he spends his money are simply pained that they were not recipients of his blessings.”
Chivayo has become well known for his extravagant giveaways—luxury vehicles, large cash handouts, and public sponsorships. These acts are often publicized through his own social media pages, contributing to his image as both a benefactor and an enigma.
Musicians, footballers, and even church pastors have publicly received gifts from Chivayo, often expressing their gratitude online. This highly visible generosity has helped him build a devoted fan base and a controversial public profile in equal measure.
Chivayo’s Generosity Highlighted by Church Leader
Though many Zimbabweans admire Wicknell for his generosity, critics continue to question the source of his wealth. Unofficial reports estimate that he has already spent over US$5 million in gifts and donations over the last few years. His philanthropic activities—though charitable—have raised eyebrows over what some see as an attempt to buy influence or build a cult of personality.
Skeptics argue that the fanfare surrounding Chivayo’s generosity overshadows more pressing questions about financial accountability, transparency, and whether such displays should be celebrated in a country grappling with economic challenges.
Despite the criticism, supporters, including Prophet Makoni, argue that Chivayo represents hope and abundance. They insist that his wealth, rather than being a cause for suspicion, should be viewed as an example of divine favour and a source of inspiration.
Makoni concluded his message by positioning Chivayo as a symbol of “divine prosperity.” He insisted that some individuals are divinely chosen to set standards, not just in their wealth, but in how they uplift others through it.
“In every generation, there are chosen individuals who rise to prominence and set a new standard of what is possible. In Zimbabwe, Wicknell is that person when it comes to prosperity and generosity,” the prophet proclaimed.
This spiritual framing of Chivayo’s rise adds a new layer to the public conversation around his influence, especially in faith-based communities where material success is often seen as a sign of spiritual favour.
As Prophet Makoni’s comments circulate online, Zimbabweans remain sharply divided. Supporters hail Chivayo as a generous modern-day benefactor, while critics warn against glorifying wealth without accountability.
Nevertheless, one thing remains undeniable: Wicknell Chivayo is a dominant figure in Zimbabwe’s public sphere—where discussions about money, faith, power, and purpose intersect. Whether viewed as a spiritual figure, a savvy businessman, or a polarising celebrity, Chivayo’s influence continues to grow—and the debate around him shows no signs of slowing down.
