111 butcheries slosed due to operation nyama yabvepi

At least 111 butcheries have reportedly been closed for breaching public health laws, in the wake of a joint operation between police and the Veterinary Services Department called ‘Operation Nyama Yabvepi’.

The operation, aimed at curbing the selling of uninspected meat, as well as stock theft, was launched in December last year.

The Herald reports that 409 butcheries were inspected, and 111 of them failed to meet set standards, leading to their closure.

Cases of stock theft have been on the rise countrywide, with police always warning butchery owners not to buy stolen cattle.
