Jub Jub is fighting Moja Love after his salary was not paid

Rapper and TV presenter Jub Jub has unleashed his lawyers on DSTV channel Moja Love after the channel reportedly refused to pay him for his much-love cheating show Uyajola 9/9.

According to Sunday World, the channel is punishing the Ndikhokhele hitmaker for allegedly insulting his female business partner, Keabetswe Mokoena. Mokoena and Jub Jub are business partners at NGO Raah Foundation, which was contracted by the government to organise the Moses Kotane Arts Festival that was expected to take place between 3 and 4 December 2022 at the Moruleng Stadium in North West. However, Uyajola 9/9 presenter cancelled the music event, citing “brand damage” as the reason.

His statement came after Mokoena accused him of verbal abuse, harassment, emotional stress, and “substantial harm to her professional reputation and business”. She also accused the musician of trying to benefit from the community project, The Citizen reported at the time.

In response, however, the TV personality dismissed the accusations as “false”. He also claimed that Mokoena was the one who was exploiting young artists, misappropriating funds, and extorting stakeholders.
As a result of the accusations, Moja Love have reportedly withheld the Uyajola 9/9 host’s January salary.

The publication reports that Moja Love CEO Aubrey Tau stressed that Jub Jub had violated the channel’s anti-gender-based violence policy.

“The CEO is a proponent of anti-gender-based violence and abhors the abuse of women and children. He felt Jub Jub should be punished severely as that would serve as a deterrent to would-be transgressors of the company’s policy,” said the channel’s executive.

According to the executive, who did not want to be named for fear of victimisation, Tau was contemplating terminating the presenter’s contract. But, Ngi Thembe Wena rapper is not taking the alleged punishment lying down. The rapper’s lawyers — Baloyi-Ntsako Attorneys — issued a letter to the channel, demanding payment of his January salary. In the letter, his lawyers stated that his contract with Moja Love only ends in March 2023 as he signed in March 2022.

“Quite shockingly and to his detriment, he informs us that to date he has not received his monthly salary for January 2023, and attempts to inquire were met with aggressive non-committal responses from both yourself as the CEO and the broadcaster legal adviser, one Advocate Nandi Ndaba,” reads the letter in part.

Jub Jub’s lawyers also stated that withholding his salary was unconstitutional and in breach of the employment contract they signed with him. They further accused the channel of running their business like a “spaza shop”.

In conclusion, the lawyers threatened to take the channel to court. A business of this magnitude, such as that of the broadcaster, Moja Love, cannot be run as spaza shop, it’s unprofessional, unethical and completely abhorrent. It is our informed and considered opinion that the treatment you are subjecting our client under, inclusive of non-payment of his salary is unfair, unlawful, wrongful conduct and inhumane,” reads the letter.
