Town clerk involved in an accident a day after his appointment – PHOTOS

Mr. Livingston Churu, Gweru City’s newly appointed acting Town Clerk, was at the weekend involved in an accident with the local authority’s vehicle a day after his appointment to the new post and receiving the vehicle.

According to The Herald, the vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser, was declared a write-off after the accident. The vehicle was bought for US$176 000 by the former Town Clerk Mrs. Elizabeth Gwatipedza.

Mr. Churu took over the post from the acting Town Clerk, Mr. Vakai Douglas Chikwekwe who was removed following his recent arrest by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on allegations of corruption.

Gweru City Spokesperson, Ms Vimbai Chingwaramise confirmed that the acting clerk was involved in an accident a day after his appointment.

Ms Vimbai Chingwaramise said the accident occurred near Norton adding that Mr Churu escaped unharmed.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) has arrested a Zimbabwean man for possession of a fake driver’s license after he was stopped for reckless driving in Tembisa.
