Liberation war hero David Farawo laid to rest the Manicaland Provincial Heroes Acre

“Our father was a great fighter and a hero and this declaration is well deserved. As a family, we are extremely grateful to the President and the government and on behalf of the Farawo Family, we are happy that our father got such kind of an honour.

“He made sure that we went to school as many as we are. In return as children we also did everything possible to make sure our father survived. We made sure that he had the best medical care available in this country. Our father died peacefully in his sleep in the afternoon after returning from the fields,” he said.

Representing the Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyere, the Deputy director in her office, Mr Lucky Basopo described the late Cde Farawo as a dedicated and loyal freedom fighter who remained patriotic until his untimely death.“This is a sad loss not only to the Farawo family but to the province and the nation at large. His loyalty and dedication to the national cause is unquestionable hence his excellency President Mnangagwa and the government found it befitting to accord him a liberation war hero status.

“To the Farawo Family, I want to express my condolences, your loss was indeed a huge blow to the nation at large. I hope that you shall continue to be guided by his principles, dedication, hard work and loyalty to the party and the nation,” he said.

Cde Farawo was born in 1945 in Mutare district and did his primary education at Mutsago school up to standard six.

From 1966 to 1972 he worked at Musabaika bus service before he decided to embark on a journey to Mozambique to be trained as a liberation fighter.Whilst in Mozambique he stayed at Chimoio before being taken to Tanzania for training.Upon completion of training, he was posted to Dzapasi like many other cadres.

After independence, he ventured into farming until his death.
