CCC legislator Job Sikhala facing charges of inciting public violence

The trial of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator, Job Sikhala who is accused of inciting public violence in Chitungwiza last year continued at the Harare Magistrates Court this Tuesday.

The trial continued this Tuesday, with a police officer and key witness, Superintendent Edmore Runganga being cross-examined.

Sikhala, who is jointly charged with Chitungwiza North legislator Godfrey Sithole, is accused of inciting public violence after allegedly mobilizing CCC supporters to cause violence, on the pretext of avenging the murder of Moreblessing Ali, whose mutilated body was found in a disused well in Chitungwiza last year.

Superintendent Runganga said there is overwhelming evidence that Sikhala is the one who posted a video on social media platforms to incite public violence, while Sithole is accused of providing transport that ferried CCC supporters who later engaged in an orgy of violence at Chibanguza Shopping Centre in Nyatsime and the surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, the trial of six suspected armed robbers who got away with US$2.7 million in a cash-in-transit heist at Gwebi River along the Harare – Chinhoyi road continued at Harare Magistrate Courts this Tuesday.

The suspects are Nomatter Jonga, Mathew Simango, Fanuel Musakwa, and Shadreck Njowa, while their accomplice Charles Chirara was shot dead last year during an armed robbery incident in Chadcombe, Harare while on bail.

During cross-examination, the ZRP Investigating Officer, Detective Assistant Inspector Damson Chatukuta revealed that they recovered US$1 million within three days with serial numbers matching the ZB cash-in-transit money heist.

Detective Assistant Inspector Chatukuta also submitted that police recovered acquired property which include top-of-the-range vehicles from the accused.
