National broadcaster procures service vehicles

THE government has given credit to the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation for improving its operations to match the second republic’s development trajectory in line with vision 2030.

With the coming on board of other players in the media industry, the national broadcaster, ZBC has managed to remain relevant and competitive.

Speaking during the commissioning of vehicles purchased by the national broadcaster to enhance its operations, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvagwa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the national broadcaster is capacitated to perform its mandate.

“This is pleasing to be here officiating at the handover of these vehicles. Transport is the backbone of the company as they run their day to day business in news gathering vehicles. It shows how the national broadcaster has grown despite the challenges it faces, said Senator Mutsvangwa.

“Also, Zbc you’ve continued to prove why you have been in the industry for such a long time. The procurement of these vehicles will also improve content productions, mobility of staff in news gathering and coverage of projects being implemented by the second republic through NDS1.”

“The transformation must not end with the purchase of vehicles but also the welfare of employees, skills training of journalists ahead of the August General elections,” she added.

ZBC Board Chairperson, Dr Josiah Tayi commended the work ethic at the national broadcaster and its commitment to the transformation agenda.

“As the board we continue to applaud the work and commitment being shown by the management, employees and stakeholders in realising that the company reaches its full potential.,” he said.

“Besides its mandate of broadcasting factual and accurate information, the company and managed to wade off competition from other players who have imaged over the years. ZBC received money from the fiscus which we have used to procure some of the vehicles which will enable full coverage of the 2023 elections,” he added.

Cognisant of the challenges the corporate has faced in the past, ZBC Chief Executive Officer, Ms Adelaide Chikunguru remains optimistic of a bright future for the national broadcaster.

“The company has actually done well over the past years through unity and hard work. At one point we had only 6 service vehicles that accommodated all of the company’s demands which was a trying time. But now in total we have 27 vehicles which is a feat that cannot be done overnight. So, we can say we are on the right track and getting there,” said Ms Chikunguru.

The national broadcaster is currently in the process of upgrading its radio and television studios as it strives for world class broadcasting standards.
