City Parking, the traffic management agency in Harare, has announced a new policy stating that paid parking discs will no longer be transferable between parking bays. This change is part of City Parking’s latest communication, which includes the introduction of Parking Bay Sensors designed to detect when and which cars are parked.

The official statement from City Parking reads, “Please note that valid tickets are no longer transferable from one bay to the other. Parking is specific to the parking bay, and the parking time is not transferable.”

In Harare, parking costs one dollar per hour. With the new policy in place, even if a motorist pays and parks for a short duration, such as five minutes, they will be required to pay another dollar if they decide to move their vehicle to a different bay or location.

Similar to Tendy Three Investments (TTI) in Bulawayo, City Parking has previously faced resistance from motorists who perceive some of its policies as unfair. Issues such as parking fee hikes and the behavior of parking attendants have been raised by motorists in both Bulawayo and Harare, the two main cities in Zimbabwe.
