On Friday, police detained Tanya Rozina Rushesha, the 35-year-old daughter of Defense Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, as part of a fraud investigation. Detectives from the police commercial crimes unit took her into custody after three individuals reported alleged scams involving her, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Sources indicate that Rushesha purportedly approached several business owners under the guise of selling bulk fuel. After receiving substantial sums of money for large orders, she allegedly failed to fulfill the agreements.
Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the police spokesman, stated, “I have not yet received any information” regarding the case. Defense Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri was returning from an official trip to Zambia on Friday, and attempts to obtain her response to the arrest were unsuccessful.
This incident marks the second arrest this year of a minister’s child, following the detention of Neville Mutsvangwa, son of Women’s Affairs Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, in May on charges related to illegal currency dealings. Mutsvangwa spent nearly a month in remand prison before being granted bail.
Monica Mutsvangwa attributed her son’s arrest to alleged political motivations, accusing Vice President Constantino Chiwenga of orchestrating the legal action.
