Police in Mashonaland West have confirmed that 13 male juveniles in Chinhoyi have been apprehended in connection with the murder of a resident along a river bank on Saturday. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) identified the deceased as Passmore Moyo, aged 21. “ZRP is investigating a murder case that occurred on July 20, 2024, along Hunyani River near Rusununguko, Chinhoyi, resulting in the death of Passmore Moyo (21).
“Thirteen male juveniles assaulted the victim with bricks on the head following a scuffle over an undisclosed issue,” said the police spokesperson. Passmore Moyo succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital. Sources informed NewZimbabwe.com that the 13 juveniles are members of a larger vigilante group associated with learners from a local government school calling themselves the “No Mercy Family,” known for intimidating students from neighboring schools.
Chinhoyi has recently experienced a series of violent incidents, prompting Member of Parliament Leslie Mhangwa to request increased police presence and patrols in the town. In a separate incident, Police in Kadoma are investigating an attempted murder case that occurred at Waverly bus stop on July 20, 2024, around 0230 hours.
An unidentified male suspect allegedly assaulted a 17-year-old juvenile with booted feet and clenched fists and subsequently stabbed him once in the stomach with an okapi knife before fleeing the scene. The victim was rushed to Sally Mugabe Hospital for treatment.

A tragic incident unfolded on 13 July at Chirwa Mine in Mashonaland Central, where Albert Tom, a 21-year-old miner, stands accused of murdering his colleague over a purported theft of US$33. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) revealed that Tom confronted the victim around 1:00 AM, alleging the theft.
According to reports, Tom allegedly used a steel rod to strike the victim twice on the forehead and repeatedly on the body, leaving him injured on the ground. After returning to his work, Tom later found that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.
